Health Care & Rehabilitation Services (HCRS) proudly spearheads Vermont’s enhanced Mobile Crisis services, a statewide initiative in collaboration with the Vermont Department of Mental Health (DMH).

This ambitious project leverages HCRS’ extensive experience and leadership in the field of mental health services, marking a significant step forward in providing comprehensive crisis support to Vermonters.

About Mobile Crisis of Vermont

HCRS, as the lead agency, has undertaken the responsibility of coordinating the delivery of these vital services across the State. This includes subcontracting with nine other community mental health agencies, each tasked with administering these services within their respective communities. Through this collaborative network, the program ensures that individuals facing mental health and substance use crises have access to prompt, effective, and empathetic support regardless of their location in Vermont.

In southeastern Vermont, HCRS directly delivers these services, bringing their expertise and community-focused approach to the forefront. Founded in 1967, the organization’s commitment to mental health care is deeply rooted in its history of serving and advocating for the wellbeing of the community.

At the helm of this groundbreaking program is Mark Young, serving as the Mobile Crisis Program Director. With over 16 years of dedicated service at HCRS, Mark brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role. His background in mental health and substance use services, combined with his talent for collaborative work, makes him an ideal leader for this initiative.

Under Mark’s guidance, the Mobile Crisis program is set to make a significant impact. The program is available 24/7/365, offering services to anyone experiencing an emotional, mental health, or substance use emergency. The service model includes a two-person team that delivers support right in the community where the crisis occurs. This approach ensures that individuals of all ages receive timely and appropriate care in a setting that is most comfortable for them.

The program’s design involves key components such as triage, screening, assessment, referral, care coordination, and follow-up services. This comprehensive approach is instrumental in providing holistic support to those in crisis.

Mark Young’s leadership, coupled with HCRS’ robust network and commitment, positions the Vermont Mobile Crisis services as a beacon of hope and support for individuals and families navigating mental health crises. This initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also contributes significantly to the broader goal of building a more resilient, supportive, and understanding community.

The Mobile Crisis agencies are all members of Vermont Care Partners, a statewide network of sixteen non-profit, community-based agencies providing mental health, substance use, and intellectual and developmental disability supports.
